My Top 5 Favourite Films of All Time

So while we are on the topic of media practices, I thought I would talk about my top five movies of all time!

Five –  Spirited Away

I first watched this at the Sydney IMAX Theatre on the big screen as part of a Film Festival, a couple of years back. I love Studio Ghibli as a company, my friends and I grew up watching My Neighbour Totoro & Kiki’s Delivery Service, so I already knew I was going to love this movie. Even though I have watched it many, many times since I first saw it, I always manage to pick up something new – maybe because I am getting older! I really enjoy the hand-drawn animation and the storyline is quite nice!

Four –  Harry Potter

I am sure all of you are not strangers to Harry Potter (if you are – sorry, but you’ve been living under a rock). I am such a lover of the first movie (I also love the third one – I love the prom scene). I wish I had the level of Hermoine’s confidence, and I think Emma Watson is one of the most influential women, she’s one of my biggest inspirations for confidence and standing up for what you believe in. I like this series because it tends to lend itself to the book series – something that movies often can’t get right.

Three –  Sixteen Candles

Molly Ringwald is my all time favourite actress, and my favourite member of the 80s “Rat Pack”, as they were called. Sixteen Candles is a ‘coming of age’ film dealing with all the issues of turning “sweet sixteen” – particularly centered around romance, dating and falling in love. One of my favourite ‘older’ films – a classic and a staple, in my eyes. I have always been one for rom-com films but this one has some humour thrown into it too, which I can appreciate.

Two –  The Breakfast Club

Molly Ringwald at it again, this time with the original, classic “Rat Pack” movie, “The Breakfast Club”. Yet another ‘coming of age’  (similar to Sixteen Candles, the “Rat Pack” were cast typed, but it suited them well!). The acting is great, the songs are great, the storyline is great – go and watch it, if you haven’t already! I’ve included the famous song “Don’t you forget about me” down below, give it a listen!
