Me, At Nineteen. (PB2)

I have always been a believer in consistency; one could say that it is a core factor in my life. This is something that I wanted to express in my piece Me at Nineteen” – a piece about not only how far I have come, but how far I have left to go developing as an individual. I have made my editing style in this piece quite varied, using both quick jump cuts and slower shots to juxtapose myself being both an introvert and an extroverted person.

The title “Me at Nineteen” is an allusion not only to my age but also the fact that this routine will ultimately shift over the course of my life due to the exposure of new experiences. All the shots represent a part of my life in an abstract way, for example, the panning shot of Melbourne Central represents my love of travel and adventure and the shot of the pool table and frozen yogurt represent my friendships where I live, something we do on a regular basis.

I have used the mixed track “Talking With You” as I thought it was both a mellow and exciting piece. I included tracks both of original audio with my video and my own recorded tracks. The audio track with my mum speaking over the shot of booking flights back to Sydney is significant as it represents the importance of family but also how I am living away from home. I also think the shots of myself as a child juxtaposed with the video of myself now is one of strongest points in my film, I could also say that the beginning is also a strong point. However, I think some of my other shots could be refined and the flow of my film could have been more constructed.

Although Premiere Pro has been challenging to work with, I have enjoyed discovering a new software and testing out my videography skills in “Me in Nineteen”. I also think my film is accurate in representing parts of my daily life and how routine expresses this, respectively.
