I nearly killed my succulent: the checklist of being a millennial

I was reading a fashion magazine that I picked up at the RMIT Global Fair today and I found it particularly interesting about the ways people use social media (ie: “friends > food”)

It made me think about the way millennials act on social media – from #mcm #wcw (“man crush monday and “women crush wednesday”), posting relationship photos, brunch snapchats and making sure the filter is just ‘right’ – I was contemplating on how I use social media as a millennial. Here’s what I thought of:

  • event photos: so many of them
  • I went on twitter and tweeted about the fact my succulent was still alive. Also the fact I own a succulent.
  • I drink “Thank You” water and actually type up the code about what product my water is assigned to
  • My snapchat story mostly consists of brunch. The fact that it is now a thing that I have brunch all the time.
  • I only upload to facebook (ie: me actually writing something) about every three weeks. But I am always on Facebook… watching, liking, commenting.
  • I went on twitter after three months of not being on twitter for a very long time!
  • I think I check my emails over 10,000 times a day.
  • On one Instagram account (my business one), I go through my feed and like every photo. On my personal one, I am more selective of what I like.
  • Most of my instagram feed is brunch (see above), my friends or photos of content I enjoy seeing.

That got me on the topic of social media and interviews. Most of the time, when I watch interviews – it will be a cast or crew member of a television show talking about behind the scenes shenanigans and maybe playing a game with their castmates. I find a really iconic interview is actually on the Today Show (this one still manages to make me laugh!) where one of the presenters, Karl, has had a bit too much to drink the night before (it was the Logies, you see) – his response is just hilarious. I’ve attached it below (there are two parts to this – and sorry that it is labelled ‘karl drunk logies’…. that’s the only way I could find it!)

I find being a millennial pretty tough – not to mention bringing social media into the mix!
