Sound, Audio and Labotomies

In this week’s workshop – we started off by listening to a twenty minute audio on Lobotomy; a neurosurgical procedure that involves severing the connections in the pre-frontal lobe of the brain. It follows an individual’s story of why he was forced to have the procedure done when he was twelve. There are many different elements to this story, which we discussed in class in an open discussion.

We discussed story elements; focus/theme, hook, plot, setting, conflict, characters, and moods as well as sonic elements; narration, studio interviews, in field, music, SFX, archival sounds, and location. We then also worked on our group projects – because one of our members were away, we just did some individual work planning on our section of the recording.
