Day Seven.

Documentation Criteria

Produce a blog entry of 250-500 words that addresses the following questions:

What? Describe the types of online media practices you engaged with and produced today. This many include (what you listened to, watched and created online). Write this description as if you are explaining to someone step by step what you did. Explain what you did like for instance if you added a video to YouTube. What was the content of the video? This part sets up the context for the next two questions.

How? This part focuses on the authoring, publishing and distributing part of your activity. For instance, if you are adding a photo to Instagram – What did you take the photo with (what type of camera)?, How did you author the content then publish it to that service? How did you distribute the content you added? Did you link it to other social media services like Facebook, or a blog, for example.

Why? This part concentrates on the question ‘What do I do with online media?’ For example, why did you post a photo to Facebook? Was it because you wanted to show family and friends what you were doing that day at that particular time? Another example – Why did you watch a particular video on YouTube? Was it for entertainment purposes or to learn something?

Focus: Facebook…. it’s not about reading but connecting!

What? Facebook was originally created for university students (how ironic, I find it to be a major form of procrastination nowadays) to connect. Once restricted to only university students, now has become one of the top-grossing social media websites with Mark Zuckerberg (the CEO) having a net worth of over 59.4 billion (according to Forbes, as of the 4th of Jan 2017). Facebook has turned into a hub for online sharing whether this be in the form of ‘status updates’, wishing someone a happy birthday, sharing photographs or selling items. With the update of Facebook messenger (similar to texting), now individuals can always stay online.

Why and How? I use Facebook as one of my main sharing platforms because it is all inclusive and allows me to do everything. It allows me to share photos with my loved ones, connect with people over the globe, join facebook groups that include people with similar interests to me. I have used facebook to look for job applications, share funny photos (or ‘memes’) and generally update a wider audience on my life. On a daily basis, I would tag/comment individuals in funny posts, share my thoughts and ideas on an article through a ‘like’, engage with other’s content (eg: someone updates their profile picture). Today, I updated my cover photo to become a more recent one, as my last update had been in 2015, so I felt it an appropriate time to change it.

I have also included a short video about Mark Zuckerberg’s challenges since starting Facebook.
