Video Games Yo!

Video Games.. I think this weeks reading is just an excuse to talk about video games and everyones love for them. Bringing into the previous weeks discussion of hypertext, video games has appeared and thus the discussion of video games and whether or not one can consider them to be hypertext. I would say that video games are hypertext as our different actions cause different outcomes. I don’t know about you non existent readers of my blog, but I find if I am stuck on a level in a game that I just can’t pass, I find myself repeating the same action over and over again until it works. This is stupid of me as it obviously hasn’t worked the last 20 times I tried it. So trying to break out of my stubbornness, I try a new move and I get a different outcome. I would say hypertext is relative to some video games, but not to others as some games aren’t narrative and have a flow of different outcomes. For instance, Tetris is not a narrative game where one needs to slay the dragon in order to reach the next level. The rate at which the objects fall increases and gets faster, but there is no achievement in unlocking a next level. All there is to achieve is a “high score” in aim to beat your old one.
