I’ve recently delved into the past work of Baz Luhrmann, an Australian director who’s originally from my hometown. I’ve been particularly keen on his style in bringing to life his 2013 picture, ‘The Great Gatsby’. There was a remarkable sense of ecstacy through the piece, illustrious, grand shots, intensely fast paced sequences and a roaring soundtrack. What was particularly interesting to me was learning how Luhrmann adapted the original text of F. Scott Fitzgerald as he  captured and emulated the sense of wonder and discovery so that audiences in 2013 could resemble the way the text was written for audiences in the 1920’s. Thats a stylistic directional choice that I’m particularly attached to: using a written source and the way I, as a reader, interpret that stimulate a visual experience.
