10 Creativity: why Chinese and conclusion

China’s reputation on the Internet is very polarized. Some Media, Such as the BBC and other western mainstream media, have long viewed China with subjective prejudice in China (Yichao 2018). They often turn back and forth, they sometimes say that China is backward, and then they turn back to say that China will soon become the major leader and threat to the world (Yichao 2018). Such polarization is because they did not study the fact of China. So, how can people evaluate something more objectively? It can only be learning. I hope my film can become one of their learning channels. Explore the unknown through the perspective of gender women.

This is not only a Chinese documentary made by the Chinese to show themselves but also to show to more people in the world in English country. Such propaganda significance is extraordinary for national publicity (Yichao 2018). For example, many people do not even know that black tea comes from China. And I have been kept asking by people: Why do Chinese people always like to chat while eating; Why do Chinese people always like to buy healthy products; and so on. Furthermore, not only can these questions be answered in the video, but even the lifestyle of entrepreneurs who are often misunderstood by the public can be answered. For example, they are not as easy as everyone thought in making money. Also, they have little time to accompany their families, risk their lives and health, and work more than 12 hours a day.

9 Creativity: why women

I want to deliver the REAL. Not by speaking but by video.

So, why her?

Her name is Lin Chenglan, chairman of Qiaoting group, mainly headquartered in Fuzhou. At present, her subsidiaries have Internet technology, catering, trade, health caring project finance sector. This kind of hard-working and big group is commonly seen in entrepreneurs group. Most of their work is done during the meeting. Same as Chenglan, so she can to some extent present an entrepreneur group in China, at least in Fujian. The presenting and spirit of no hard-working no getting.

Female entrepreneurs are not rare in the 21st century, by the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, the old and new ideas had changed, and China began to gradually put women’s emancipation into practice (Yao 2020). The proportion of female entrepreneurs in China is 30.9%, ranking eighth in the world (China Daily 2017). But in contrast to a large male base, they are still a small group. You can find that except that Chenglan and I are the only 2 women in the negotiations in front of the camera, but men basically appeared as senior officials.

In the past, newspapers called on women to improve their social status (Yao 2020). However, there are more media applied for people to stand out now, for example, I chose film. I think such a film not only calls for more women to stand up but also allows more people, not only women but also the elderly and children, to see the current situation of female entrepreneurs, not just imagination or speech. Perhaps it can make those who believe that women should not stand on the business or political stage realize that women are quality, excellent, calm and confident.

What I am calling for is not a privilege, but more equality. Women should not be discriminated against or suppressed because of their gender.

8 after shooting and how do I cutting and editing

After shooting there is a difference compared to the Film studio that they have to clean up surrounding, I only need to pack up all my equipment. But I still need to think about all the actors.

When I was cutting, I spliced the videos together, accelerated them to nearly an hour and began to export them and took me a long time. Almost an hour video was exported for an hour. After that I found it if I put the time reminder will be better for the audience to understand, so I took 2 days to adjust the time number, to achieve as accurately as possible in the frame. Then, I put myself in an audience perspective, and I find out this is too long to be a one hour film for the audience. So I adjusted the film to about 15 minutes.

Furthermore, I find there is nothing to attract audiences’ concentration, so I put in some routine Chinese business custom knowledge, which includes Chinese culture, tea culture, Chinese business custom and protagonist thought, and some voice over interview part in it.

Background music is also an essential part of feature films (Tingting  2018). In the last few minutes, I took the frame of the protagonist playing her favourite song as one of plog in making character shaping. The name of the song is “Take me to you hurt” (2004). She listens to such songs to relax. These such appropriate background music can sublimate the feelings expressed (Tingting  2018).

All of this I did the editing on my phone, and I felt truly miserable in my moon. I actually feel I was stuck in a digital small box. If there is any technique that can solve this problem must be computer software. So next time I can more reasonably choose the right way to cut my work depending on the video.

7 During shooting 3:Equipment, time place people

Key Words: Coordination and cooperation

People are not a significant part that I am very tangled, because my principle is to respect the arrangement of the subject first.  Only when both sides cooperate happily can we better shoot and even cooperate in the future. Also because I promised before shooting that I will do my best to chill make her offer first. I must have the spirit of contract and do what I say. But this does not mean that I just blindly compromise. For example, in the second part, after asking for consent, I only shot the part of the protagonist without shooting the guests, so as to ensure that the protagonist’s daily life is recorded to the greatest extent I can get. Of course, I agree to give priority to the work of the protagonist on the premise that I can complete the shooting plan. If I can’t complete the goal in the end, I just waste a day.

So why some people did not want to be shot? You know, a lot of people are searching for the opportunity to be a shoot that then they can have a chance to be on fire on the Internet. I made some bold guesses. In addition to the content of business negotiations, which may itself already be confidential, and that may also involve their personal information. And since someone can talk to the boss, generally speaking, their identity is not on the lowest level, or they don’t want their whereabouts to be found, such as their higher-level boss or their peers. This fear is understandable. There have been real cases of joking at the dinner table and being reported to prison after being videotaped just because they say somethings sensitive (China Youth Network 2016). So even if I have made it clear that their content can not be heard at all, they still insist on not allowing shooting.

I think Who agreed to be shot it’s because of the trust, but I also think Because of the trust and the respect they dare to give their demands. Finally, what I learned how big people cautious attitude towards things, perhaps is also the reason why they have become high-ranking.

6 During shooting 2:Equipment, time place people

Key Words: Follow shot, Chinese culture

As I mentioned before, we change the two-place from protagonists office to other peoples’ office when the time was late. However, the place was rented by the protagonist so we have to pay anything to the protagonist. this is a huge difference in the movie industry.

In the whole shooting process, in fact, I originally planned to only be in the protagonist’s office and her own restaurant next door. Thanks to the protagonist for giving me this opportunity to experience the feeling of an outdoor follow shot. In the first piece, we got to the office first. Her office was on two floors. The second part can only take her profile. Next, before she was ready to go to the next location, she went to her partner’s office, so you will see that I change the location alone with my camera. This is the beginning of the third plot, and the opening seems like a road movie, the main events are based on the characters’ journey, and the road is the story carrier (Tian 2019). We talked and prepare for the next meeting in the car.

Soon arrived at the business partner’s office. In this part, You will find that both offices are offices with Chinese characteristics, but different from what traditional impression, they don’t have lanterns and much red, they prefer the colour of the wood. There are also minimalist offices in China. However, in Fujian, everyone likes drinking tea, most of the people prefer a relatively natural environment, which leads to the usage of wood and most office will also have a tea tray. Compared with places like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, people prefer to drink coffee, they don’t have time to make tea, so coffee has become a more convenient and common option. However, in Fuzhou, a lot of commercial deal is done in the boss office and during the chatting, so I always think the office is a great place to have a conversation. Therefore, in this kind of Chinese culture, there’s also a pot I want to show two other people.

5 During shooting 1:Equipment, time place people

Key Word: Low-cost equipment applications, Temporary time processing ability, Complete the shooting plan

A day of a Chinese female entrepreneur was filmed by iPhone 12 pro-Max, The best equipment I have. I also used a tripod the whole time, even in the car. It helps me to reduce screen shaking. The materials prepared by this equipment mainly include images and sound collection. The more daily like images and audio, the closer the audience’s familiarity with the interview characters, so that the audience can have spiritual resonance and achieve a better theme effect (Tingting 2018).

In terms of time, we said we were free all day to shoot, so we began at a time when she entered the office, the time was 11:30. Because she went to the hospital, the time was delayed, the shooting time has to be delayed accordingly. From 11:30 am to nearly 11:30 pm, she worked for almost 12 hours. Although the working time out of home was over, she use her mobile phone to keep doing her follow-up mobile work, but the shooting was over. This is her daily routine almost every day, like a nonstop machine. However, sadly, because some people refused to be photographed, the length of the entry of the image was only eight and a half hours out of 12 hours. But I still successfully achieved my shooting goal, while the shooting time was separated into four hours, one hour and three and a half hours of non suspended long lens shooting. Still, haven’t achieved the goal of continuously shooting for a whole day.

A4 4 Preparing shooting 2:Time place people

People

People here refer to anyone she meets in the meeting, including Activity. She will first run a screening of the people of the day to see who is more likely to agree to be filmed. Then at the same time of the day, these people were again confirmed whether they agreed to be photographed. Originally, I thought it should be very easy to do so, because this is an assignment, this is not commercial work. Firstly, it doesn’t need to pay. Secondly, it’s not publicly available material. But unfortunately, there was an accident that day. There are two guests who are resistant to shooting because they think their identity is not suitable to be published. Therefore, under the very difficult negotiation. After all, this should not affect the protagonist’s work, I compromised.

Overall, by this stage, I learned that entrepreneurs are very busy every day. Because there most are negotiations meeting, occasionally the other party is free, or suddenly they have no time that leads to her time schedule has to make changes. Her schedule is difficult to arrange properly. Also, I learned how to negotiate and deal with time changing communicating skills. This includes time and place. even something is already be sure in advance, there is still a chance that has to be changed.

A4 3 Preparing shooting 1:Time place people

Before I am ready to shoot, I must confirm everything to the shooting preparation of character feature films, scripts should be prepared in advance, so as to avoid confusion and to ensure there is no accident in the shooting process (Tingting 2018).  And I am collecting data and doing anything to serve the final presentation effect (Feng 2018). To clarify in a simple way, time, place and people are the most important and basic things I need to think about. Also,  The written manuscript mainly includes the theme, content and publicity significance of the TV film to be highlighted in the shooting process. Due to the limitation of the length of the TV feature film, the written manuscript must make the most concise summary of the interview to be conducted, and take the advanced deeds of the characters as the starting point to shoot It is crucial because all above is the basic point to arrange any activities including meeting or even shooting activities.

By talking with the protagonist, first is to discuss that’s the day is a routine day and can be shoot continuously all day night. Next, it has to be a convenient time for both her and me. Third, the day has to be the most frequent schedule of the day, this way to show the most normal experience of an entrepreneur. So that then we scheduled a day from 10 AM to 8 PM. However, unfortunately, as normal things would happen often, she changed her schedule to somewhere to join a meeting far away. Finally, we adjust three times to meet both our needs, that is the day after she went to the hospital.

My ideal shooting environment is not moving too much and indoors. She usually works in the office and doesn’t move much or go outdoors. So her existing location has brought me s great convenience to shoot stably and no charge.

A4 2 Mode of documentary

Word count 260

The mode
It is an experimental documentary while it is a long take film. The definition of a documentary by Nichols(2017) is that a documentary is for explaining the factor rather than create a drama play. It means that no reformative element but present the real.

I want to conclude with 3 documentary modes: Participatory, Observational and Reflexive.

Firstly, Participatory mode is a bit like an interview, but the difference is filmmaker will involve in. At the time I will focus on interact with people, and take this part as the introduction to guide the audience into the scene in the beginning, or as the conclusion in the end.

Secondly, in the Observational mode, the hero has no interaction with the camera. The question brings up by Nicholas ‘Is such an act in and of itself voyeuristic?’. Bingqing (2021) noted that the real scene without the stage, even the observing is allowed, but it is not acting, it is always be observing reality. Therefore, I am going to arrange this part (the longest section) in the middle as the background and the base of my work.

Finally, Reflexive mode is present not only about the historical issues but also about the problems representing (Nichols 2017). Also during the process, filmmakers should interrupt audiences’ concentration back to reality, to better reflect and be aware of the issues that the film brings up (Nichols 2017). For example, I may interact with the mirror or the hero for the purpose of reminding people that they are watching a society representation. This may appear in short as a small part.

A4 1 Why is long take

Word count 240

As I mentioned before, the meaning of this experimental work was a challenge to the montage and me. This challenge is meaningful not just for these 2 reasons, I have thought about this topic by study through the history of filmmaking in the popular cinema course. I found that not only the long take was taking the place at the start of filming history, but also it requires a lot of previous repairing work. During the shooting process, all actors, photographers, lighting recording and other personnel shall move accurately according to the design, and no errors are allowed (Ting 2016).

However, the difficulty and special aesthetic of long take have attracted many directors and artists chasing the highest level of long-take films, such as Russian Ark(2002), Victoria(2015) and 1917(2020).

I have to clarify that long shot is different to long take. Long shot refers to the distance between the camera and subject, but long take is what I focus on, a shot of some duration (Columbia University 2021). Filmmakers in the early days of cinema had no choice but to shoot their works in one continuous take until the film ran out (Columbia University 2021).

Some of the Long take are fake, that is, when multiple shots are converted in the middle, they are treated like the camera doesn’t switch, and some of it has been exactly like a performance on an ancient stage play, from beginning to end.
