A4 1 Why is long take

Word count 240

As I mentioned before, the meaning of this experimental work was a challenge to the montage and me. This challenge is meaningful not just for these 2 reasons, I have thought about this topic by study through the history of filmmaking in the popular cinema course. I found that not only the long take was taking the place at the start of filming history, but also it requires a lot of previous repairing work. During the shooting process, all actors, photographers, lighting recording and other personnel shall move accurately according to the design, and no errors are allowed (Ting 2016).

However, the difficulty and special aesthetic of long take have attracted many directors and artists chasing the highest level of long-take films, such as Russian Ark(2002), Victoria(2015) and 1917(2020).

I have to clarify that long shot is different to long take. Long shot refers to the distance between the camera and subject, but long take is what I focus on, a shot of some duration (Columbia University 2021). Filmmakers in the early days of cinema had no choice but to shoot their works in one continuous take until the film ran out (Columbia University 2021).

Some of the Long take are fake, that is, when multiple shots are converted in the middle, they are treated like the camera doesn’t switch, and some of it has been exactly like a performance on an ancient stage play, from beginning to end.
