Friday 2nd of October Shooting Schedule

This Friday I am planning to shoot scene 1 of my experiment, set inside a car.

For the record, a “scene” in my shot refers to a location, this means that if “scene 1” refers to my car, “scene 2” may refer to a park bench, whilst “scene 3” could be referring to the curb on a city street.

For each of these “scenes”, I will be attempting to convey 4 different emotional states between the two characters, sadness, happiness, fear, anger and then perhaps abstract emotional states, such as awkwardness or sexual tension.

For each shot that I choose to include dialogue in, it will be using this basic dialogue I’ve written between two subjects.

Subject 1:

I didn’t know it would happen like that

Subject 2:

No one did…but it did

Subject 1:

What could have been done though

Subject 2:

There’s always something

These lines have been designed so that they can work to convey a range of different emotions. For example, if I told the two actors to exclaim these two shots with tones of sadness, the scene would contextually appear to shot two characters leaving a scene of tragedy.

Obviously this dialogue may need to be refined in practice to properly convey certain emotions, but thats just something I’ll have to find out along the way.

For each scene, I will be using 4 different shots that I outlined in a previous post.

Here’s a shot explanation

Shot 1: Front on mid shot

Shot 2: Similar mid shot but shot from the back

Shot 3: Side on shot, possibly pulling focus between subjects

Shot/s 4: Basic matching cuts between to close up dialogue shots of the two subjects

For each of these four shots, I will be attempting to capture the action of the subjects in 6 different ways, which are:

– Once with dialogue no music

– Once without dialogue no music

– Once with dialogue and diegetic music

– Once with dialogue and non-diegetic music

– Once without dialogue and non-diegetic music

– Once without dialogue and diegetic music

Overall this will create the opportunity for 24 shots to capture for each emotion, whilst this may be unrealistic with the time constraints to attempt to do more than one emotion in a 3 hour session, I believe a speedy shooting plan will make things a lot faster and easier. The two actors I’m using are Max and Matt, two friends of mine from high school who I have worked on media productions with before. It would be great if I could work in such a fast manner that I would be able to do more than one emotion in one day, but I would be happy with just one for the session.
