Development of Ideas

In building the foundations for my film I wanted to slowly dissect and add to my initial post Writing ideas beginning with one of my first and boldest statements ‘I’m wanting to more specifically focus on the way the camera techniques create perspective.’

What initially got me excited about this exploration was when I deconstructed how I make meaning in my making meaning post. I was able to isolate the movements of the camera and debunk the intention behind the short film. While watching I considered how various angles, lighting, framing and sounds could completely change the meaning of the content but more significantly change the tone throughout.

Maybe what I want to explore isn’t how camera techniques create perspective, but instead focus on how the tone can be altered through a cameras perspective.

It might be too much to focus on all the aspects that I listed earlier, as this may cause me to only scratch the surface of each. Instead I could put complete focus on one key aspect such as lighting or framing. I can explore the tone is be set through what is and isn’t included in a frame and how to frame up an image. I could explore how framing a shot in a certain way can completely change the meaning the audience takes from it.  I can take an action and frame it in a number of different ways to see if it makes more of an impact on the tone or the meaning. This task could then further form the vision and exploration of my film.
