WHEN:
Monday, 31 August (beginning of mid-semester break)
Skeleton crew call time is 9am – was previously told 11.30, but that just won’t work for how prepared we are and what we want to shoot.

When you don’t have a script, shot list, or shooting schedule, you want to give yourself more than 2 hours to decide what to shoot, pick up equipment and take it to the location, set up, rehearse, and shoot (for however many locations and however many setups). Especially when we’re quite far from being expert filmmakers who have decades of technical, managerial, creative experience feeding their ability to operate intuitively/automatically/efficiently. Gotta love optimism, but I just had to be the realist, because we’ve got to get it done in one day. We’re not going to go back on another day to re-shoot / shoot pickups. That was the reasoning behind my saying to the team that we’ve got to start much earlier than 11.30am. All breezy though!

WHERE:
- LOCATION 1: Building 9, Level 1, Corridor
- LOCATION 2: Dark room? (edit suite or sound booth?)
WHAT: We’ve been fiddling around with a few ideas (see previous blog posts). But Carl will ultimately decide what we’re doing. I’ll shoot it. Michael will edit it.
HOW / EQUIPMENT:
- 5D MkII (forgot that the techs only have Mark IIs) – the reason I want to use this camera instead of my own 60D or Carl’s DSLR is because (1) it’s a full frame DSLR, so we’ll get the full warping/distortion of the fisheye lens, and (2) it deals with low light better than my 60D (or it may just be the lenses in the 5D kit that are better quality than mine or something).
- Tripod – if we’re going to be panning and tilting, the Miller tripod is best (the Manfrotto tripods from the techs are frustratingly jerky and it’s nearly impossible to pan or tilt smoothly on them). This also means that we’ll need to ask for the appropriate base plate to get the 5D on that tripod.
- Wide angle fisheye lens
- Dedolight kit
- Other lights? I don’t know much about lighting, but we may need more lights than the little Dedos. Carl says to get Red Head lights (and stands).
- Gel kit – small gels come in the Dedo kit. But we may also want to get the larger gel kit in case we do end up needing the larger lights. (But then there’s the trade-off of having to lug it around with us… So, it’s a “we’ll see what we can do” type of situation.)
- H4n Zoom
- Lapelle mic kit
- Headphones
- Not sure if we’ll want any other sound equipment
- Slate
- Can’t think of anything else at the moment but there may be other things!

W/R & M/U for Gabby (not sure what we’re doing with other interviewees):
- Hawaiian shirt <– Gabby is bringing hers and Carl is also bringing his as a backup.
- Bucket hat <– My mum owns a very similar bucket hat to the one that Johnny Depp wears in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, so I’ll borrow that from her.
- Sunglasses <– I have large, round, clear-frame sunnies that Gabby could wear, or her own glasses might work better.
- Hair down
