One thing I want to remain quite conscious about while making these videos is that while I’m making a film inspired and scored by a certain collection of music, I don’t want this to end up being a music video. However, in saying that I also want to be aware of the fact that Lorde has produced music videos which have already visualised her material. The songs that have received a music video treatment are Royals, Team and Tennis Court. At first I decided to ignore the existence of these videos as I wasn’t including Royals and Team in my piece and the music video for Tennis Court is severely different to my concept. I’ve decided to address this now as I have reflected on the fact that within the videos for Royals and Team there is some crossover details to what I plan to do. With Team the connection is fairly loose in that I too want to include a group of teenagers; it is more with the Royals video that features shared material.
Similarities with the Royals video are all related to the content of the films, in that they will both feature bored teenagers ‘killing time’ in their house and the suburb they preside in. I am hopeful to think that this is not merely because I can’t imagine anything other than what I have previously seen as I feel like I have very strong and clear motivations as to why I want to include these things that pertain to my vision. I strongly feel that similarities are also bound to occur between two pieces addressing the same music. Lastly, the cinematography and decoupage of my work (which is the centrepiece of my studies) will be quite different, which after all is the most important feature of this all alongside the way it is edited.
