Now that we have our concept of ‘Fear and Loathing in Documentary’ confirmed, Marta and I have been getting to work to figure out how we are going to realise this into the production of our seminar.
Neither of us had ever seen the film before so the first step was to go and watch the film and research the imagery associated with the film paying strong attention to the production design and art direction of the film. Luckily the film does contain very striking images which we can definitely work with.
So far we are thinking of having a dessert inspired set up while we also want use lights and projectors to create a really trippy ambience. Ideas we have come up with are having a set of blow up cactuses and lava lamps and generally being really inspired by the desert. Borrowing from the costuming of the film we also want everyone in our team to wear Hawaiian shirts as we feel this will create a really dynamic look.
In terms of food, we thought it’d be really great to incorporate the film’s themes of drugs by handing sherbet packaged like little bags of cocaine. Marta also had the great idea of making a big jug of Ice Tea. My aunty has her own business making cakes and biscuits, so I am going to ask her if she’s willing to whip something up for the event for a cheap price. At this point we are thinking of getting her to make some biscuits which go along with the theme of our event.
And that brings us up to date with where we are at.
