#12 Workshop

John Wheeler was the guest that gave my group feedback, we let him listen to the first 2.2 minutes of our podcast and he told us a few things that could be useful going forward.

  1. The background music had weird fades, and he advised us to fade it more gradually so that it can hardly hear it slowly disappearing
  2. It was clear, in the recordings who was the closest to the mic, and the furthest; i was the closest, followed by Jenn and then Jessie. He  mentioned that there were times that the audio recordings went way above the recommended level and John suggested that we use a compressor so that all the recordings could get to ~the same levels
  3. Incorporation of more sound effects ( we only had a keyboard clicking and a page ruffling ) as a form of transition

We also managed to listen to another group’s project. They were doing something on spotify/music and attention ( it was only the first few minutes and therefore there wasn’t much content i could get from ). They had a part where there was a lot of stats being read out and John mentioned that stats and podcasts don’t really go well unless you generalise things. For instance, instead of putting specific %’s of people who stream music in Australia, perhaps you can replace it by saying the younger vs older generation streams more etc etc.

Overall, i think it was nice to receive feedback from an expert in the field as it provides a change from the usual peer-to-peer feedback sessions we normally have. It also gives us more substance in our feedback and a little bit more direction in which we should continue editing our works into.
