Part one – A2 MSSM

Through the Sensis data collected, the main social issues that our sample was interested in included: climate change, ‘change’ and politics. From this, we were able to collate the social issues we were planning on exploring and narrow them down to be more engaging to our target audience. From here we decided to focus mainly on the issues of climate change, gender equality, racism and pop-culture/political

Our main objective going into this assignment was discovering how we can create content that engages people aged 18-32 years old with current world happenings/issues. Our idea of creating a satirical Instagram page akin to The Betoota Advocate (https://www.instagram.com/betootaadvocate/) and Double Bay Today (https://www.instagram.com/doublebaytoday/) came very organically as it was something we had all engaged with and found to be entertaining. We agreed that this form of news was in fact how some of us had actually been introduced to certain news stories/political goings-on.

We all thought this would be a successful way of fulfilling our objectives as meme pages and satirical news outlets as the ones I discussed earlier are without a doubt a large aspect of online popular culture at current, especially within our target audience; Therefor, our meme page @Usedtea.bag was created (https://www.instagram.com/usedtea.bag/). This name and idea combines the ironic inanimate object that is often seen in meme culture as well as using current pop culture slang of ‘tea’ which basically means information or gossip.
