We wrote a script today based on the filmed interpretation of prose by the creative writing students. It was interesting what came from discussing what was going on in the short filmed segment.
The key things that came from this exercise is that there are many meanings that can be interpreted from the one film. Some in our group thought that the woman in the scene may have been a prostitute. This was implied because she thought she would lose her job due to an unplanned pregnancy. We then thought of career paths for women that could be disrupted by a pregnancy. We thought of prostitutes, strippers, models and sports women.
The decided to go with a tennis player, slightly inspired by the tennis player Jelena Dokić and her quick tempered father. In our scene, we constructed a situation in a changing room where our character Elena has gone into a change room because she feels sick, and her determined father tries to goad her into returning to the court. After an altercation a pregnancy test falls out of her bag and the father/ coach realizes that she is pregnant.
We will film this script on Thursday with the creative writing students. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.
