  1. Barba utilises cinematic editing in this article as a means to start discussion around developing a language or set of conventions for Mixed or Augmented Reality (MAR) experiences. Transitioning across different scales is posited as the mixed reality equivalent of cutting. Barba justifies the usage of this already established language suggesting that for audiences to understand and engage with new media platforms they require familiarity. He suggests that language is inextricably interwoven with the construction of meaning as more examples of MAR develop so too will this established language. Barba is conscious to state that there are a number of limitations when applying filmic notions of continuity to MAR, particularly the level of agency granted to spectators as they physical traverse the experience. Barba utilises [inbox], a MAR experience, as a case study focusing upon audience interaction and how improves could be made to optimise spectator engagement and comprehension.
