‘ W5/6: VIEWING ACTIVITY. ‘

For the ‘interview shooting’ project, I will interview a 25-year-old TikToker named kk.

Through the interview with kk, have an in-depth understanding of  TikToker’s work, the relationship with the platform, and the unknown stories.

TikTok, as one of the most popular software at the moment, made me very curious. In modern society with the rapid development of online media, what kind of benefits TikTok brings to people, enabling TikTok to develop so quickly and steadily. With my questions and curiosity, I hope to learn more about the media industry.

I chose a movie called ‘FREE GUY’ to study, which is a science fiction movie. The overall atmosphere is relatively relaxed and humorous. The whole movie combines real life and the virtual world simultaneously. The overall picture is lively and avant-garde.

At the beginning of the movie, it is the male protagonist Guy who wakes up from bed and starts his ordinary working day. First, go to the coffee shop to buy coffee, then go to the bank to work, the camera records his day’s itinerary. On the second day, Guy repeated his life the same as the day before. This shooting method gave me a lot of new ideas for shooting, which can be applied to my own video.

In the virtual world in the movie, people wearing glasses can see different pictures, such as floating gorgeous fonts, spaceships, explosion scenes, and so on. . . I can learn about the idea of overlapping scene design. For example, I am shooting the action of the interviewee, but I may see another scene through sunglasses or other things (maybe it is about the final presentation of this behavior).

I will learn audio editing and interview editing from movies. I like the different background sounds after the movie scene changes, which vary according to the picture or the mood of the characters. Interview scenes also appeared in the movie. From the close-up of the characters at the beginning, as the camera slowly zoomed out, the TV screen was pulled out, which was a picture-in-picture technique. The special effects have also left a deep impression on me. The sound of the special effects is very real and will make me immersed in the plot, nervous or suddenly frightened.

I will learn editing skills and shooting techniques in movies, and I will also make targeted choices for audio editing and materials so that the interview video has a sense of continuity and a sense of life.

‘A1 : FOLIO ITEM’

In the fast-developing modern society, cars have become the needs of every household. After the car was invented, people’s travel became convenient and fast, instead of horse-drawn carriage and slow walking. At the same time, the rules are also produced. For car travel and road design, the direction of travel and road hints are specified.

I got my driver’s license when I was about 19 years old. I was happy and satisfied that day, after three months of practice, memorizing driving rules and 4 tests. It’s like the candy after taking medicine, which is more evocative than before. Before learning to drive, I didn’t often notice the road signs and traffic prompts on the road, and I didn’t even fully understand the meaning of each sign. But for me now, it has been two years since I got my driver’s license, I am very familiar with the meaning of these signs. I think this should not be the memory of book knowledge, but a kind of ‘long-term memory’ or ‘muscle memory’. Long-term, continuous contact with something can make me subconsciously judge it.

Slow down, speed limit 50km/h                               Crosswalk

 Can turn around                                                       Road direction
Pay attention to pedestrians                 Children must pass with an adult

No parking, speed limit 60km/h                        Outdoor car parking

 Direction of travel                                                     Video monitor

Direction of place                                            Camera monitoring area

  Stop at intersection                                                     No whistle

This picture contains the most signs: ‘speed limit 60km/h’, ‘No parking’, ‘Bus and bicycle lanes’, ‘Children must pass with an adult’.

This photo was taken from the bottom right- side. Because it was cloudy on the day of shooting, the color of the photo was darker. In post-production, I adjusted the ‘white balance’ and ‘contrast’ to make the colors look brighter and more balanced.

The content of the photo is not in the middle position due to the shooting angle, which causes the picture to look a little unbalanced. Next time I will try to find a good position and angle to shoot. I am also a little dissatisfied with the color of the picture. I tried to adjust the ‘highlight’ and ‘exposure’, but it would overexpose the photo. For post-production, I need to continue to learn, such as adjusting the color of the picture, how to make the photos look more attractive. I hope that I can improve my skills in my future studies.

W2: A COLLECTION OF LIKE OBJECTS- “TRAFFIC SIGNS”

During the year and a half of studying at home due to COVID-19, I got my driver’s license and learned to drive. Whenever I drive a car on the road, these traffic signs attract my attention the most. When I was just learning to drive, the sign reminded me what I needed to do next. For example, no parking, slowing down, crosswalks, no honking, speed limit or road direction, etc. I think the signage provides a lot of convenience, not just for me. It often reminds me of the right approach when I am not sure, even though I can now drive proficiently, I still can’t leave it.

Dangerous water depth!

Slow down, speed limit 50km/h.

Outdoor parking lot.

Can turn around.

Road direction.

Pay attention to pedestrians.

Children must pass with an adult.

No parking, speed limit 60km/h.

Direction of travel.

Crosswalk.

One’s life has been learning, memorizing, familiarizing, and cycling back and forth. After a long period of ‘repetitive memory’, every time I see these signs when I drive on the street, I know how to respond, just like ‘muscle memory’.

The sign also reminded the driver what kind of preparations should be made in advance. Provide road information, play the role of road language; command and control traffic to ensure traffic safety; guide the way to improve driving efficiency. According to the guidance of the sign, I can reach the destination quickly and efficiently every time, which gives me a lot of security and intimacy.

W1:EVE ARNOLD INSPIRED MINI-ESSAY- “LOVE THE WORLD, LOVE YOURSELF”

Since the COVID-19, due to the lockdown of the city and the suspension of airline operations, I have been living in China after the New Year of 2020, and I cannot go to Australia to continue to attend school. At the beginning of the worst of COVID-19, I chose to gap for half a year. This decision is to be responsible to myself, to my family, and to others. Half a year later, I started to learn online classes at home. This is a brand-new class mode that I haven’t tried before. It also tests my ability to learn independently.

Until the holiday in July 2021, COVID-19 continued to be stable in China. I hadn’t been traveling for a long time then I travel on the journey to Changsha with my friend.

Photo was taken in Zhangjiajie, Hunan, China 2021

After COVID-19 stabilized, many people came out to enjoy the restored lively and vibrant scenery. This is at the foot of a mountain. Not far away is a stone ladder connected by 999 steps. It sounds like a difficult thing, but there are still many people who challenge it.

The two poems engraved on the opposite left side mean “Don’t say that the mountain is too high, and you can’t go up and stop.” I think this poem will make some people think.

Photo was taken in the cinema, Changsha, China 2021

This cinema is built in a shopping mall, but because of COVID-19, there are still very few people watching movies, and because the movie has been in theaters for a few days, I think. This no one situation is still very rare, at least not before COVID-19.

Photo was taken in a busy street, Changsha 2021

At night, there are still many people in front of the restaurant. People on the street come and go, press the shutter to record this lost and recovered moment.

Even if COVID-19 begins to improve, cannot relax your vigilance and always wear a mask to protect yourself and others.

COVID-19 has taken away many lives and caused a lot of inconvenience. However, there are very few vehicles and crowds, reducing carbon dioxide pollution, the sky is bluer, the woods are denser, and the air is much cleaner. More time to consider whether this is good or bad?
