Compared with teamwork, I think my ability to working solo may be better. Although the workload of independent work may be relatively large, it may avoid the situation of untimely communication or inconsistent ideas in teamwork. For me, I think the first quality that independent media practitioners need is ‘good speaking’. The most important thing with interviewees is communication. Through communication, being able to contact interviewees can also establish a trusting relationship, especially the recognition of personal abilities. The success of communication determines whether the work can be carried out, which is equivalent to the first step in completing the task. Then there is ‘will listen’, listen carefully to what the interviewee says and find what you need from it. It is also respectful to keep quiet when the interviewee is speaking and to listen carefully. At the same time, creativity is also very important. In the process of listening, some ideas for making movies are generated. When I look back at the interviewee’s video, I often come up with a certain idea and write it down, which can be used in appropriate places during post-production and can produce some surprising effects. For post-production, I think what I need to have is the ability to ‘induce’ and film production. Summarize important sentences and ideas from the interviewee’s answers, and express the interviewee’s meaning concisely and clearly, so that the audience can fully understand the content of the movie, rather than the audience looking for the key points.

When working alone, my learning ability has been improved. Before shooting the video, I searched for learning materials about screen shooting, video editing, shooting angle, and how to record. From this, I learned how to use the lens and how to make the recording sound clear and without loud noises. For example, put the recording device at the forty-five position in front of the mouth and keep the recording in the same place. But I am not very good at the technology of mixing sound and background sound. I combined several background sounds together, and it sounds like an incoherent sound. I need to strengthen my capacity in this area. There will also be black frames during video connection and clip editing. I will improve these points in my solo work in the future.

Now I may not be a mature solo practitioner, but I think I‘m a hard solo media practitioner. And I will strive to be a good solo practitioner through learning and continuous improvement.
