The Sound of The Tote

This whole weekend I’ve been attempting to create an engaging soundscape using all the recordings we took on Wednesday. It’s been a bit more tricky to make something as engaging as I had in mind and has taken a lot more manipulation of the sounds than I anticipated to be completely honest. That said, I’m quite satisfied with what I’ve managed to come up with. There were over 25 different recordings I had to work with that included a lot of different textures and tones, and so blending them in seamlessly was something that I relished.

A window into the various manipulations of the recordings.

In the end I’ve worked in snippets of conversation with the ambiences of the room to create a feeling of what the Tote is all about. There feels like there is a sort of arc to piece and although that is an aspect that is a bit of a coincidence, the snippets of the conversation about the band being gone and that “they’ve towed the place” poignantly fits with the theme of the history of the venue, as well as the fact that it creates new meaning for the visuals of the empty site.
