My first blog.

So this is my blog. I don’t really know what to blog about since I’ve never really kept one, nor am I competent at beginning things formally (clearly, I’ve meant to have written about 10 of these by now so say my tutors/lecturers), so I am going to use this blog post as somewhat of an introduction to me and we’ll see where that goes.

Firstly, I’m Daniel. I’m 18 right now, but I’ll be 19 by midyear I reckon. I called my blog “808s, Blogs and other stuff” because as of right now that’s what my life somewhat is. 808 refers to the Roland TR-808, the machine that is responsible for creating the pounding sub bass kick in some of your favourite songs. It has become one of the most important parts in the production of hip-hop tracks and other inspired offshoots such as trap. I love the sound of it because there is nothing better that becoming completely taken over by the loud boom of an 808 on a speaker. It’s dope.

I love music and I respect it. I love it because I love the idea of it and what it can do. I respect it because it has a myriad different ways of doing so. I am particularly infatuated by hip-hop, particularly the sounds of the South including Miami, Houston but particularly Atlanta, which I personally believe is the home of hip-hop (sorry New York, got love for you but nah). I also am infatuated with electronic dance music, but more specifically trap and future bass (the Flume-ey sort of sound). I kind of produce it on my computer as a hobby, and I’d love it to go big one day so I could DJ it but for now it’s kind of in house.

I also love sport, football in particular (I along with millions of fans across the world call it this, but the masses call it ‘soccer’ in Australia). Not only is it a uniting and multifaceted topic of conversation amongst admirers, it’s also very culturally significant. It’s actually a big reason why I’m here; last year in year 12 I wrote, directed and produced a documentary on the bias of the Australian mainstream media against the sport in this country, and explored how it such bias has impacted the development of the game domestically. It was the most enjoyable experience I would say I had the whole of last year, having spent a good six months working on the project, so much so that it really reinvigorated my desire to pursue filmmaking and/or media as a career pathway in some form. Watch it here if interested:

Seeing as I’m rambling, I think I’ll start to wrap this one up. I don’t really know what I’ll end up doing in a few years time after I’m done here. I don’t really want to know either; it’d make this journey not nearly as exciting. But that said, I know it will be in the realm of media. Somewhere. So cheers, I guess, to an exciting new time. For all of us.

And also for finishing the first blog lol.
