Week 2 Tutorial Reflection

Today was the workshop in which we presented our project brief 1 self portraits to our classmates.

I was forced to rush through mine, due to a ticking clock, so I ended up omitting the text, one video and a voice recording in my presentation.

The feedback I received was that what I called “low quality” was something that another person could easily interpret as raw, and wholly reflective of identity.
Mainly, looking at others presentations has allowed me to consider a range of ideas for my next presentation.

Here are 5 ideas I gathered from watching other peoples content

1. It’s okay to arrange photographs, it can really help to put as much of your identity in the frame as possible

2. Work with colour. When other peoples images were taken using a coloured light, a lot more character and visual appeal was evident. Whether it be using literal cellophane and fabrics, or purely using photoshop, using colour is definitely something I will attempt.

3. Create Art. One girl created these amazing art pieces, full of colour and identity, then photographed them. Really effective and personal. Despite my love of art, I really have no talent in it, so it will be interesting to pursue.

4. Work with your environment. One fantastic self portrait involved a girl using photos and soundscapes from where she lived. Living next to a large area of bushland, this is definitely something I would like to employ.

5. Use better technologhy. Due to time constraints, I was forced to use my Galaxy note 3 camera for my photos. It was clear from the people who used dlsr’s, that better quality photo’s have a much greater effect, and allow for a lot more detail to be shown.

I wish I was as cool as Michael Keaton in responding to critics, but sadly, I just accepted their valid and helpful points.
