The prospect of intertwining found footage within media project three was a daunting idea to say the least. As I have not studied media before, I am only just beginning to learn to navigate equipment and software. Adding sourcing and editing found footage into the equation was not overwhelmingly exciting, however; I am extremely happy with the result.
As I began delving into the archive of Archive I was initially overwhelmed, typing words like Fashion show would return over thousands of results whilst more specific Rick Owens, would turn back a very measly two or three results. However as I learnt to properly navigate the site, I found an abundance of great clips of my desired Rick Owens, Issey Miyake and Yoji Yamamoto.
The footage intertwined seamlessly with my own footage of Fraser, my subject. I decided to work off the biggest flaw of my last video, doing too much. I learnt in the truest sense that Less is more, thus this was my motto for my project brief three.
Although I still had over 50 minutes of footage to cut down, I filmed endlessly in order to capture my subject in his most natural state as I found that the planned responses to questions did not fit the desired aesthetic of the film, nor accurately represent my naturally laid back subject.
I added a filter to the work which I believe coincided brilliantly with the ambience of the film, also ensuring that the focal point of the film is the subject and not the surrounding.
The soundtrack I amazingly found on Archive as I was dreading the idea of a film without a backing track, thus it was truly a blessing in disguise to find a track that so accurately coincided with the feel of the film.
