Symposium Week 9

How is it that assembling a large collection of components into a system results in something altogether different from just a disassociated collection of components? – Duncan Watts (p. 24)

Callum summed this discussion up well when he wrote “Blogposts are an ecology. There is not way of predicting in advance who will come to advance and why. Some blogs will become a ‘hub’ for unknown reason. There is no hierarchy within blogs.  Blogs will become popular as quality content will be read and then linked to. This builds and popularity will increase.”

Kenton, on the other hand, “took away the probably rudimentary statement that ‘The sum of the parts can be quite different to all the individual parts collated together”.

Meanwhile, on the point of neutrality, Jessica wonders “how does one determine how neutral something is? Is neutrality subjective?”
