Ready Camera One

RCO Expo Post

Throughout this semester, students of the ‘Ready Camera One’ media studio have engrossed themselves in the art of multi-camera media production. This prompts the discussion of the possibilities and limitations of multi-camera productions through both investigating how multi-camera productions are used in industry and by experimenting with the form in class. Using industry-standard studio facilities and equipment, both classes have experimented with the wide range of genres that multi-cam has to offer, including Late-Night, Game shows, Sitcoms and Panel Discussions. Each project extended the class’s abilities by utilizing more production elements of multi cam and live to tape, such as graphics, EVS and audio. In every class students took on a different role in the studio, broadening our understanding of each role and how it fits into the teamwork and communication that is required for such productions.

Our 12 weeks in Studio A have culminated in two large-scale multi-camera productions between the two classes: Class A’s: ‘3AM with Fico’, a chaotic late night talk show parody and Class B’s ‘The Improv Games’, an improvisational comedy game show taking inspiration from ‘Whose Line is it Anyway?’ and ‘Thank God You’re Here’. These mammoth projects see each class collaborating on various areas of the production process, from script-to-screen, which has resulted in the final shows that you will see today.
