A few sentences about our role in the assignment and what we learned about that role…

Kayla – My role as the director was definitely stress-inducing but rewarding. Not only was I responsible for overseeing the entire production, but I had a lot of fun in doing so. I felt prepared on the day of shooting and found myself going above and beyond in order to make sure all of the requirements for the live tapings were met and organised. Overall, I had a lot of fun in the director’s chair and am excited to take on this role again in future projects.

Violet – In this show, my role was director’s assistant (DA), my job was to communicate with the floor manager, EVS and audio, making sure everything is prepared and cued at the right time during the show. Also, I had to calculate the score of the contestants of the show so that our host could announce it at the end.

Kallista – For Gossip Station my role was vision switcher and lighting designer. I learnt how to create ques with the lighting desk and use the vision switching board. On taping day I had to create all of the lighting ques and be in communication with the director during the taping as what camera shot is in vision.

Esther: My role in the show was graphic operator and although unfortunately, I wasn’t able to be there, I learned behind the scenes to create graphics that fit the needs of the show based on communication, such as the lower third and the images that needed to appear in the Q&A session.

Sa:  In the game show, I was in charge of the position of audio. It was the first time for me to be in the position, and I surely have learnt a lot during the process. The game show provides a unique situation in that all the things might happen at the moment, so the control of audio becomes something that requires close attention to the ongoing events on the stage. Searching for sound effects and tracks were also containing a lot of creative opportunities that made me feel engaged with the production on many scales.

Harrison: For my role in Gossip Station I was a writer and was the fill in GFX operator for the on day shoot. Being the main writer I did research and wrote most of the questions for the game show as well as segment titles. I learnt the process of how to write and structure a game show as well as learnt about time management with writing questions to fill up the allotted time.

Jacquelyn: In “Gossip Station,” my role was the Floor Manager. I have learnt how to effectively communicate with the machine, the Director’s Assistant, and the director. I ensured timely communication with the relevant actors, confirmed the production process, and ensured the smooth operation of the cameras during filming. I have realised that this position is crucial and requires effective communication, especially when it comes to transitioning dialogues from the host’s cue cards to subtitles.
