Film Review: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing    Missouri (2017)    Martin McDonagh Drama film

  • The start film score is Thomas Moore’s Last rose of summer. The peaceful film score lay the foundation of an elegiac story. Especially, The image of three billboards standing a long time at prairie looks desolation. This film score also plays when Mildred goes to burn the police station. It highlighted the peace before the misfortune.

  • When the mother and her son talk about the death of Angle, the silence is just perfect. It makes audiences think and feel the tension between them.
  • Moreover, there is a comparison between the flashback and the present. For the flashback, the is a squabble with high volume. For the present, it is a slow sad film score.
  • Mildred Goes To War is the exciting BGM for Mildred, especially when she is going to fight for her(daughter) rights. For instance, the film score plays when she first goes to advertising company to against policy station. Another example is that she goes to police station to ask the equal rights for her friend along with the film score. It sounds like the West American countryside style. It explores the firm belief and fearless of Mildred. Every time Mildred goes to fight for her right and find the truth for her daughter, the film score is exciting.
