Getting a chance to look back on the first shoot’s material and results had me a little nervous, as I had not had the chance to properly look back at my footage. My heart sunk when I looked back at the footage, it was incredibly overexposed! I thought as to how that could have happened, it was an extremely bright sunny day when I shot, and it was tough to look back at the footage on the camera and get a solid indication of how it looked. I realise now that I didn’t properly adjust the detailed exposure settings on the camera for the situation I was in. However thankfully the EX3 camera carry a large amount of information in the shot, so it was very possible to colour correct the shot and fix the exposure. In front of the class Paul showed us how to colour grade a shot in Adobe Premiere, and thank god! The EX3 did in fact carry enough information to fix the problem, which also gave me the opportunity to not only fix the exposure, but colour grade the entire shot and see how I want the scene to look. So into the cutting room I went, finding an efficient way to edit the shots. Colour Grading 3 different shots from the shoot several ways and choosing what I liked the best, then from there pasting the attributes onto all of the shots. Even with the several problems that came when looking back on the shoot, I could still use all of the shots, thanks to colour grading and editing. In terms of other visuals I felt my framing and shot set ups turned out well, other than the exposure and I could work with them. The weakest point from filming I think was the sound however, as there were some sound issues that came with the Vox pops from being in a loud public space. Though I was able to cut up the important lines in a separate sequence and get some very nice sound bites that I can further edit and eliminate the background noise as much as possible for the final piece. Though there were some problems I still see strengths in the results of the first shoot, also seeing where I can go for the next day of shooting and what I can put together in this shoot as a scene itself, possibly even incorporating the Vox pops.
