Assignment 2 – Post 2

Identify a specific target audience informed by an analysis of the Sensis data and propose a platform or platforms that is/are relevant to your target audience.

In the data provided by Sensis, there are not many answers to the questions we asked. Our team project mainly focuses on influencer and personal branding.

On the question of whether people subscribe to influencers on social media platforms, 56.7% said yes. But when we only look at the answers of respondents aged 18-21, 81.5% answered yes. This data broadly shows that a larger proportion of young people will pay attention to social media platforms. So we decided to set the target audience at 18-25 years old. Young target groups are more likely to follow what we post on social media. All group members are similar in age to the target group and are more aware of current trends and media content that young people are interested in.

The other question we raised was whether people would buy products promoted by influencers. 45.5% of the respondents chose ‘neither more nor less’. This data shows that people’s desire to purchase products sold or promoted by influencers on social media is not high. Nearly half of the people are not interested or believe in this kind of promotion. Similarly, when we restricted the respondents to 18-21 years old, the most popular answer was still ‘neither more nor less’, but the figure dropped to 33.3%. 24.1% chose ‘somewhat more likely’. This data shows that young people are more interested in the products promoted by influencers on social media platforms. It also reflects that young people are more likely to trust those social media influencers.

The five most popular social media platforms shown in the Sensis survey are Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok. As I mentioned in my last post, the social media we have chosen is Instagram. In theory, the more popular a social media platform is, the easier it is for us to gain traction. The data once again confirm that our choice is correct, and whether the selected social software is popular will largely affect the results we obtain during practice.
