Specific to Site week 12 – Development 3

So today was our last class with Robbie and our last class for the semester, saddening, but I’m pretty keen to not be going insane with the amount of work I have to do at the moment.

I finished filming with Belinda yesterday and I only have 1 more couple to film for my ‘ensemble’ piece and that’s happening later this week.

Due to me being able to see the light at the end of this filming tunnel, I’ve decided to focus my attention onto my sound for the exhibition.

I found this interesting article on Sound Art and it touches on site specificity- you can read it here.

Reflecting on site specificity, I came up with a way to interpret the universal concept of intimacy through sound. It began with the idea that Signal is in fact a public space positioned in Melbourne, one of the most multicultural cities in the world. I then thought about the use of language and dialogue within the sound design and how powerful it could be to utilize different languages in order to deliver my message about intimacy.

I am thinking of recording the word ‘Intimacy’ spoken in different languages and separating them into two different sound poles in order to not only create a diverse sound atmosphere, but to also symbolize the two poles of the globe being connected by the concept of intimacy which is portrayed through the breathing in the central pole.

I am excited to see how this turns out and I will post my sound to the blog once it has been completed.
