Quit

Over the past three days I was unable to attend uni as I was on the set of a quit smoking advertisement working as a production assistant. Being in this environment I was able to experience the way shooting to edit works.

It was a series of shots that were filmed over three days, but the interesting thing I found was that they didn’t shoot in the order that the sequence is meant to be edited and viewed in.  Up until this point I had always conducted my filming experiments from start to finish in the order I want to edit. To me this is what made sense, and this works for me. This is because I have only worked on small projects.

In the past three days I was a part of something bigger. It made sense to film the shots out of sequence as it saved hours of time for cast and crew. Not all people had to be on set at the same time for this production to come together. Through the highly thought out shoot order there were days where certain cast members weren’t needed on set and locations that were only set up once to film various sequences that would be edited into the clip at different times. This is something I’m going to take on with me while approaching my project cat! I will focus on time management, not only when it comes to the physical shooting of my film but in the whole pre production process.
