blog #17: cut/copy

I’ve known for about 3 years now that once I leave university, and am qualified to be a part of the workforce, I would love a career in the media industry. More specifically, broadcasting is where my heart lies. Something about interacting with others, being out and about, relaying information, and being liked excites me. I’ve been following this dream by undertaking work experience opportunities at radio stations and journalism headquarters, and have my heart set on wanting to do this for the rest of my life… this course has only confirmed these feelings.

When I think of media, editing comes to mind. Editing is such a profound subject, it has many different facets and directions in which one can take it. I’ve met people along this journey who would love a career in producing and editing, whether it be film or television, this is an occupation that is still alive and well! However, editing just isn’t for me, which has been reassured by myself (and my peers) today in my tutorial. For our first assignment, we must edit a one minute piece of work containing images and recordings. I have tried my hardest, and will continue to try my hardest, to produce a stellar piece… but it will be hard! I have looked around at other people’s work and it never ceases to amaze me how artistic some people are. With their fancy editing and quick cutting, and here I am with a picture of a train seat and a video of me walking. I guess it’s not always about what meets the eye, and more about what the meaning is, which is hopefully what I’m trying to portray.

Let’s hope my editing game improves as the weeks go on!
