Introduction to MC50

Working in groups of three students should record enough shots with the Sony MC50 to put together a brief interview segment for a program with the following theme.

  • “A survival guide to your first six weeks of University”

This is was my final result. I was very pleased to have a chance to handle the camera before I started filming PB3 so I wouldn’t be completely overwhelmed while setting up. The biggest challenge my group faced while filming this was most definitely the sound as the last exercise showed it is extremely hard to find a quiet place on campus.

I used this exercise as an opportunity to spend a little more time working on my editing skills within premiere. As I mentioned in my previous posts this is my first time using the program. After this exercise, I finally feel that I am getting much more accustomed to the interface. As well as getting acquainted with all the keyboard cheats 1:

Command+T to add a title effect and Shift + D for cross dissolve transition are easily my two new favorite go-to’s.

I also took the time to watch a few tutorials on both LYNDA and on youtube.

I ended up using this tutorial for the diagonal split screen effect in the beginning of the video. Which is visually my favorite part of this piece. I do think the video’s transitions could be smoother as well as having less amateur looking titles… I plan on viewing some adobe after effects tutorials to improve the quality for PB3.

I have encountered some struggles with premiere that I have yet to find an adequate resolution to, the biggest on being the time lag during editing. If anyone knows how to fix this I would love some help!
