Who is the practitioner and when were they practicing?

Ulrikke Falch is a 22-year-old Norwegian actor that became internationally known after her role as Vilde in the acknowledged teen series “SKAM”. Besides being an actor, she is co-writer on the book “Jenteloven” that deals with narrow-minded body ideals, discrimination, harassment and injustice. Ulrikke Falch has a well-known Instagram account @ulrikkefalch with 924.000 followers where she in a self-ironic and humorous way concerns herself with pressure of body ideals and being a feminist. She is considered to be one of the most powerful on the internet in Norway. In 2018 she won “the influencer award” at the Vixen Influencer Awards but refused to receive it because she wants to distance herself and send out the signal that she contributes something else. As a role model she will prioritize differently and she wants to focus more on the case and not her as a individual.

With the video you are examining, what is the title and when was it produced?

The video has no obvious title. Instead of a title, Ulrikke Falch has written some sort of a blog post where she makes it clear that there is no difference between her body and the body ideal besides the different-looking body – and if there is, embrace and celebrate differences. Afterwards she criticizes how the community and the media discriminate fat people and encourage to look like the ideal.

The video was published on the 30thApril 2018 and can be found here. Based on how it was authored, it was probably produced around the date of its publication but I am not sure.

How was the video authored?

The video looks authentic and in a lower quality which could indicate that the video was recorded on a phone without being edited afterwards. No editing is exactly what she is an advocate of – she wants to reject the plaster saint and be herself. Therefore, the video can have been posted immediately after filming it on her own. The video does not seem to require lot of work (when thinking about planning, filming and editing). It looks like she filmed the video on her own without much equipment.

How was the photo published and distributed?

The video was distributed through Instagram and was posted on her account @ulrikkefalch on the 30thApril 2018. But she has a website that directs to all her social media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) and her E-mail. She does not post the same content on her social platforms so it seems like the video was only distributed on Instagram which is compounded by the fact that all her content beyond her platforms appear to be taking in the moment.

Since Instagram is chosen as the distributed platform and almost everyone possesses a smart phone, Ulrikke’s videos can be viewed infinite times. For example, the chosen video has been played over a million times and is able to be viewed multiple times more because it will always be available on the internet. But her account was shot down for a while which minimized the opportunity to watch her videos. Besides her own Instagram, there exit some fan pages of her on Instagram that repost some of her content. Her Instagram has also become her portfolio where she is presented as an advocate of positive body approach and feminist which contributed to her role as a writer and speaker. As a writer and speaker, she shows her content and probably this video has been showed to one of her presentations. Online media contributes to the fact that publishing distributing become much easier than before and makes sure that the content can live forever.
