ASSIGNMENT #1- Visual Example + Research Essay

This short research essay involves my research with my visual examples of my iPhone 12 Pro camera. I did not have a camera to be able to professionally do this, but I reckon my iPhone’s good enough. For starters, changing the frame rate is definitely possible. Changing the frame rates of the camera affects it’s quality, for example having lower frame rates like 30FPS instead of 60FPS on regular video shooting mode allows smoother motion and quality for filming. Another feature is the slow-motion video recording option, having either 120FPS or 240FPS. In Australia, the standard frame rate used in media productions is 25FPS.

Zooming in is also a feature highly used on the iPhone camera. The more you zoom into a frame or shot, the more pixelation it has and it becomes more and more noticeable. That’s due to the resolution size and camera lens itself. An application that recently started utilizing the zoom mode as an effect in videos is TikTok (see example below)\

When it comes to video recording, audio plays an important part in it as well. The audio recording varies from phone to phone or camera to camera, but my iPhone has the standard high quality audio I presume. For the very own recording application, there is a new feature on enhancing the audio quality (as shown below) that will be able to sync when in post production ends on the video footage.

Moreover, another feature many know about and some people do not is the actual use of the focus modes. By simply talking on the iPhone camera screen, you can set the focus on anything you want it to be focused on, another option is holding the specific spot on the screen and it will be AE/AF LOCK, which means Auto Exposure and Auto Focus lock. It changes the amount of light and the focus is fixed.

It is wonderful to explore the features on my iPhone, ensuring the same shots for the whole time has been a little tricky, but my aim was to get the best comparisons possible.
