the critic’s self perception

From entering this subject I have naturally felt a sense of self-consciousness about the way I am going to critique. My two main passions in life are film and dance music (lol) and although I believe I have a strong knowledge of both topics (perhaps more so in the techno area) I don’t believe that I have an absolute knowledge to warrant the right to to be able to critique someones work. To be or not to be (lame)

This week I was left with a dilemma, after reading the weeks reading task I realised it came a time where I had to choose how I were to write my upcoming critiques. Upon starting this subject I naturally thought I was going to be writing in a slightly negative style, as that is the light in which I have perceived the many films I have gone to see in 2017. Curious case of hating nick (not really)

Expanding on a thought I had during PB2. While researching and eventually writing about my chosen critic (Nick Pinkerton) I found myself going through a minor crisis. After reading an interview featuring Pinkerton online I came to the firm opinion that I thought this writer was an absolute tool. Anyone who so comfortably refers to themselves as a ‘cult (anything)’ or in this very specific case a ‘critic’s critic’ automatically loses my respect.
