Kitchen Play (Sandra)

Written by Marizelle Steyn and directed by Xinyu Zhang.

The content of this film is roughly an interesting conversation between two people in the kitchen about coffee. When I saw the script, I decided to design the whole movie in a humorous and relaxed style. I decided to let my sister play the role of a girl who reads a book because her cuteness can give the whole film a relaxed feeling.

Before shooting, I had done a series of preproduction, including bird’s eye view, markup script, storyboard, shot list and sound animatic. I designed the camera and lighting according to the bird’s eye view and location picture. I prepared two lights to ensure sufficient lighting during the whole shooting. The markup script, storyboard and shot list all helped me complete the shot. Overall, preproduction helped me successfully complete the filming of the entire movie.

In the editing process, I finished the rough cut over and over again, and with the help of the teacher, I got the final film. In the final film, I did not choose to add music, I kept the original sound, which is also convenient for people to watch.

Through this shooting, I gained more knowledge about film production and also gained some professional knowledge based on the animatic, markup script and bird’s eye view. In the process of making the film, I also got a lot of reflections through repeated rough cuts.
