  1. Forkner’s Article addresses the lack of standard teaching method in terms of continuity editing. He goes on to redefine this concept in terms of two shots and creates a vocabulary for discussion. Forkner also provides brief analysis of common editing techniques. The Article is designed for teachers and its discussion focuses on the fact that techniques aren’t taught clearly to students, as they are assumed to be existing knowledge. The article aims to explore a way in which the teaching of production components of filmmaking doesn’t contradict other editing theories. Forkner begins by breaking down various examples of shots when shooting a scene between two people, he utilises both stills from feature films and exercises shot with students to illustrate this. Expanding upon the outlining of terminology he then goes onto highlight some of the implications these shots have and their function in terms of character development and narrative. The most noticeable being how it’s possible to convey character subjectivity or narrative dominance through shot selection.
