A5 Pt2 Studio Review

Something that I was able to take away from all my studio is the idea of collaboration and teamwork, and within “Ready Camera One” collaboration had such a key role throughout the course and was present in every aspect. Teamwork and collaboration were very prevalent within the second group assignment. Although each team did have their separate ups and down, they were able to come together, with the little knowledge we had about live television at the time, to be able to create some great game shows, and memories.

Within “Liar Liar Pants on Fire!” teams, a sense of professionalism and quick thinking was something that stood out for this team. This was due to even with all the teams’ setbacks and issues on the day they were able to work together to get the show back on track. Something prevalent throughout this team’s production was that there were issues around aligning EVS, GFX, Audio and Autocue to all the respected outlets, if it from Autocue restarting to the top of the script, Audio not playing to the studio making it hard for the contestant to guess when to continue. Even with all these downfalls, they were all able to work together, as a team, to fix all the issues as fast as possible and ensure that, within the camera, the show was running smoothly. Either through the reliance of Vision Switchers’ trust as the Director quickly fixes something off-camera, to the floor manager switching broken props and telling the host when to continue. Everyone on this team was able to adapt to a tough situation and make sure that the show was able to run smoothly.

For “Are You Smart, even?” the group was able to take an existing Game format/show and make it into something of its own. What excelled within this group was the idea of organisation and preparation. Not only did this group have a clear vision of what they wanted for the show, but they were able to plan and prepare everything well in advance to ensure that, as a team they weren’t rushing to get everything in order at the last minute, something that happened within my group “Mr Matchmaker” as we didn’t have everything prepare and it led to us finishing off some loose strings on the day of the shoots. “Are You Smart, even?” team came to set with all their props in hand but also, but they had all their EVS, GFX and script ready to be loaded on the devices. Not only did this organisation and preparation allow for the team to take the shoot more calmly and stress-free but they also allowed for minor tweaks to be made on the day and ensured that all their material, they had was up to the best quality they had. This organisation also leads to the idea of collaboration as seen within the team they all communicated with one another to ensure that they had everything ready and that on the day they felt they were ok and were prepared.

Although I engaged with “Ready Camera One,” I also had the opportunity to view the screening of “The Scene in Cinema” as well. At first, I was very confused about what the studio was focusing but as the screening progressed I slowly got a better understanding of what the studio was aiming for. For me, the studio focused on experimenting with different film techniques and how each one can be able to tell a story differently. This was seen in Madeleine Cheale film “The Deal” where the film was shot with different filming techniques, such as over the shoulder shots, continuous takes, and close-ups. This leads to emphasizing a distinctive character or having a different idea for each shot, we see it with the shoulder shot, it felt that the emphasis was on the person signing the paper while with the close it had a focus on the seriousness of getting the paper signed. We also can see how editing can make a different impact on how the film can turn out as well even though all the scenes are the same, the way the film is put together can have different connotations and meanings. This notion prevailed within Jack Watson film “Jessie & George” where the second experiment film had a more upbeat feel to it with the high lighting and music, it created a sense of a love story about to form but the final experiment changed this with dimmer lighting which created a sense of creepiness to the scene now. For me, this studio showed the relationship between Filming, editing and all technical aspect of film creation can do for the storytelling of a film.
