Reflection&Epiphany WK3

For this exercise, our scene is about a guy asking a girl to dance. As Paul suggested that we should do the scene outdoor, so we have to deal with the hard sunlight. And we did, the sunlight was really strong, so the first few shots were super over exposure. I think maybe next time we should use something like filter or just find another location. And the location was not really good, there were some people working construction around, we keep hear the noise of drill. Some students who are from other course were doing their interview exercise around there as well. So basically, it was quit noisy when we were shooting. Maybe consider more about the environment during next exercise.

Beside the sunlight and the noise, the shooting is pretty good. But when I was editing, I found that we didn’t think about the continuity. Something like the position of character’s arm, their hands were not in the same position. And the focus of the camera, I am not sure it is because of the hard sunlight or because the camera has problem on focusing. We did 2 master shots of the main character and about 3 or 4 shots of over shoulder shots when the character talks or they are looking to each other. The master shot was pretty good I think. But one of the over shoulder shot, when we shoot from the back of the two girls towards the guy, we have too much blank space on the right side of the frame. The 4 characters only took 1/3of the frame; the rest of the frame was nothing in it.

Because of the overexposure, the noise and the bad focusing. I decided to do a black and white scene without dialogue. So I used B&W effect, and the noise effect, I tried to make it looks like an old film. Due to the exposure of first shot was so bad, so I also adjust the brightness. On the other hand, I didn’t use the audio cause it sounds so noisy, I download some free music from Internet and tried to create a funny atmosphere. I also added a dialogue box to make the video looks like comic.
