In order to create successful and suitable concepts and campaigns for the Lentara Winter Appeal,
it was essential to have some solid understanding about the history of this Appeal, how it works, and the who is benefited from it.

After reading some case studies provided to us, it was now my role to do some further exploring and investigating to gather some solid background information on the appeal so that our group could continue to move forward. This is what I came up with:

Lentara Winter Appeal and Emergency Relief Program

The Annual Winter Appeal raises vital funds for UnitingCare and Uniting Church emergency relief programs along with projects that tackle underlying structural causes of disadvantage and are preventative in nature. The grant applications received highlighted the incredible work being done by the UnitingCare network in responding to the needs of people who are disadvantaged or in crisis

What we aim to do: To provide a service that contributes to addressing emergency situations that impact on our people living within our communities. To provide a response that is non-judgmental, culturally sensitive and non-discriminatory. The program aims to provide assistance in the form of food parcels, material aid, utility bill payments, and assisting with school cost for families and individuals experiencing financial difficulty and in immediate crisis.

Who is eligible? People from the community who are seeking Emergency Relief assistance must be holders of a current Centre link Concession Card. Asylum Seekers are required to produce information confirming their identity and residential address, and provide a referral letter if involved with a case management agency.

Lentara emphasizes the importance of early intervention, attentive care, and addressing hidden or underlying issues that exist within each individual, family, or situation.

Where will my donations go?

A food donation such as breakfast cereals, dried fruit, long life milk, yoghurt, tinned and canned foods, rice and pasta etc. provide basic living needs to approximately 120 families every week. The food is delivered and helps to support families who have little to no regular income.

A financial donation will also be put towards helping those who desperately need it.

A $25 donation will help feed a family for half a week.

A $50 donation will buy a food parcel for a family that will last them an entire week.

A $35 Donation provides a Myki Card and credit for a month for one person.

A $70 donation helps one person afford food and basic necessities for a fortnight.

A $180 donation will provide a person with a Myki card and a Basic Living Allowance for a whole month
