Week 10…Institutions

Institutions are systems of established and prevalent social rules that structure social interactions.

To Capture and Share the Worlds Moments.

About Community and the Social Interactions around unique visual experiences.

Instagram is a fast, beautiful, and fun way to share your life with friends and family

Instagram as a Media Institution….

Instagram is a social-networking and online smart-phone dominated application. The app invites its users to upload pictures and videos, apply filters, use editing tools, tag others, pinpoint their location, and share these images or films with their followers and friends across various social media platforms.

Instagram is a business, and in a backwards sort of fashion, the business of Instagram has boomed more than the producers had ever initially intended. Selling to Facebook in 2014 for 1 Billion dollars, the app has actually created business within business. With hundreds and thousands of brands and companies using the public space as a way of communicating, promoting, and marketing to millions of consumers all over the world.

However, there is more to the social-networking app then just it’s corporate and commercial traits.  Instagram is a unique, entertaining, and appealing social media platform for the everyday person. Here, you don’t have to be rich or famous or authoritative to be significant. The app allows the everyday, ‘girl or boy next door’, an opportunity to make their mark.

To stamp and symbolise their presence and existence on the world.

Instagram is about sharing who you are, what you love, and who you love.

To appreciate, embrace, and feel a lust for your own life.

It can also be the biggest waster of time and best tool for procrastination ever.

But you can’t have the good without a little bad.
