blog #23: lost in translation

Today I completed, shot, produced, filmed, wrote (trying to think of other movie roles to make me sound professional when I’m really not) and EDITED (nailed it!) my Brief 3 film on my grandmother, Panayiota Grigoriou. My Yiayia, grandma in Greek, suffered through the loss of her parents due to war and unfortunate circumstances, was forced to migrate to Australia by boat, make a life for herself in a country in which she doesn’t know the language and eventually the death of her husband.

She is a tough woman, with a heart of gold and a loving nature – I have never met anyone else like her. To be able to openly discuss the effect that the passing of my grandfather, my Papou, had on her and still remain so composed and confident must take some absolute strength.

The overall editing process, just like the last project, I found extremely difficult. This whole movie making, editing and producing this just isn’t for me… but it’s still good to see all the different facets that the media industry is intertwined with. I’ve just checked out the write-up for Brief 4 and it sounds very interesting, but also very daunting!
