Tour of RMIT Buildings class

Even though this is my third year at RMIT I (regrettably) still haven’t had a good look at the buildings around the City campus. Of course I’ve seen them as I walk around, and some of them are really beautiful (especially Building 1), but I never had a really in depth look at them, and into them. When we went around as a class to see some of the buildings I tried to pay closer attention to their details, and the atmospheres they had. Storey Hall was interesting as the design now is sporadic, and eccentric. The concrete, green, and purple don’t seem to invoke any particular kind of feeling, or if any, an alien one. In the upper level there was what looked like tweed couch cushioning stapled to the walls in random places. This made it feel like some kind of large time machine, and parts of the times it visited had accidentally stuck to the sides. Some of the geometric arches also looked randomly placed, and made the interior feel even more confused.
We did go past Building 11 but it’s now being renovated so we couldn’t get a good look at it or go into the courtyard. This was a real shame because before the renovations there was a big stone archway that led into a tiny grassy courtyard that felt very separated from the outside world. We did also walk past Building 1 and 20 which were as beautiful, if not more so, than Building 11 was. They are very stately buildings with an imposing presence and gorgeous stone bricks on the outside. I would definitely like to see more of these buildings on the inside.
