Preaching to the Choir.

I was pretty stoked this week when we were told to only write 3 blog posts, if we read and linked another persons blog.

Well, I took my own advice from my previous post and read some old  Georgia’s work. It was her profound post regarding privacy that really got my goat (is that even a saying?).

In recent weeks I have become single, and in my friends desperate attempt to get me back on the singles train I was pressured into making a tinder account. I was sooooo apprehensive at first, and even after 4 days of being on the ,oh look you can scroll through lots of boys just like you’re shopping , app that weird feeling in my stomach still hasn’t passed (i have ruled out gas).

Only mutual facebook friends and likes are shared between 2 people who match each other, and i suppose thats all well and good. Its what follows thats a little scary. While I was immediately infatuated with the hottie blonde surfer who has started chatting to me, as the conversation rolled on, and he asked for my last name, Instagram and number, I found myself placing trust in a kid a knew nothing about. Its weird, because while I’m usually quite a sensible person, when I’m on the net its almost like strangers become by new best bud.

Social media like Facebook and Instagram are great when you’re following mates and chatting to old pals. But when you see a random hottie on Instagram and stalk them for hours (you’ve all done it) is that an invasion of privacy? You can know where they live, what they eat, who they date, who they associate with all from an Instagram profile. It’s invasive, I know it is, but I fall into it alot. Could it be that these platforms put up a wall between strangers and dehumanise? I would sniff around peoples lives in reality, so why is it ok online? Is it ok?

For all of you who like a little love, blonde surfer kid is actually really nice.
Dont judge me for having tinder- just on their for a laugh, Ill never live this down.
