– The Facebook profile page that Adrian showed us was pretty interesting, particularly the concept of good, innovative content getting you noticed. As part of another unit, I’m interviewing several people on how to go about getting a job in the media industry, and this same idea is showing up everywhere – we can’t expect to go out and get a job, whether it’s in TV, radio, online or anywhere – we have to be the content creators, and be innovative enough to demonstrate our worth.

– Small world networks, Kevin Bacon is a hub. I love the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon, and on top of it being applicable to our focus on networks, it’s also another example of how useful networking is in our lives and careers. Why can’t we be hubs? Obviously we’re not going to be Kevin Bacon, but making those connections, and positioning ourselves as newer nodes, is only beneficial to us.

– Also enjoyed the analogy about films being rectangular, and not being able to film in the dark. We have to fit the rules of technology, so it’s never as free and unrestrictive as some enthusiasts pronounce.
