Humanity being in charge of it’s own future, is a crazy notion. These often short sighted beings (myself included) being responsible for the future development, and future growth of the world to which each of us find ourselves. Upon, the earth we each call home. People who are more often than not being driven on self interest, and striving off self motivation being in charge of the future of this world.
Too often has the vast of humanity dismissed their responsibility for the world around us and further the future which this world holds for us.

Expressed through Melbourne based band Pridelands first EP Natives they highlight various themes of humanity being both entirely in charge of, and entirely responsible for the implications which are happening around in this world, and the world of tomorrow.

We had an obligation
To leave this world
Better off than it was
When we were born
Over and over, day after day
Mass destitution, culture decay

In this passage from song Destitution holds connotations of humanity letting itself down, “we had an obligation” an obligation to “leave this world better off than it was” which we met with “mass destitution” and the decay of a societal culture.

Does this “evolution” which we are striving for greet us with a problematic potential short sightedness.

In another song from their body of work Gaia
Take back the life from the fabrics you’ve sewn
Gaia reverse all the damage we’ve done
Take back all that you rightfully own.

The line especially “Gaia reverse all the damage we’ve done,” emphasises the notion of humanity more often than not working as a plague which without interjection has the potential to purge toxins into its future.
However humanity is entire responsible for its own future, perhaps we need a little intervention so we do not completely destroy all that we know as a home through a short sighted focus on gratifying fast paced evolution.
