5.2 ASSIGNMENT

1> From your studio, reflect on an aspect of two other students/group’s media work on the website in terms of specific insights they produced about a key idea addressed by the studio?

The group of students that we were a part of for the entangling media course each made their own media work that sparked their interest in themselves and adhered to the requirements of the structure of the course. I have endeavoured into the group of Amy, Thy, Rachel and Lewis who took their approach to create a mixed-media project called “un-glitch”. This project looked into the ways of artificial intelligence and how it has become something that has taken over the ways of the 21st media. This project included a mixed-media narrative that was made up of a collection of videos and text to demonstrate their ideas and communicate to audiences the way the world has become so technology based. This project provided specific insight into the key ideas addressed by the studio as they have created a story based on a centralised issue in the scheme of the modern world. With the world becoming more AI-based, this group investigated this notion by creating an audio/ visual blended into a multimedia format that has adhered to the requirements of the studio through being an innovative way of entangling their theology and their media format. This media work has been something that has provided a lens into the ways that another group has taken to the prompt in their way.

2> Choose one other studio from the list below (which is the same as this list) (we suggest selecting a studio that you would not normally be interested in). Then describe a key idea that you think the finished media/studio work communicated with reference to two specific examples (i.e. particular individual/group works) – Please note the name of the studio and the name of the work

Looking at the group consisting of “Ruby, Eliza, Lucas and Chelsea’s” work of “Spook or Spoof” I was able to uncover the ways that they approached this media project. This group looked into the ways that people’s unexplainable stories are a part of people’s subconscious. This media project utilised the form of video, audio and text to communicate their non-fiction story as they delved into the ways that the use of mixed multimodal forms can be an effective means of engaging with a range of different audiences. They addressed the key ideas of the studio by discovering the way that the blended multimedia form can impact the way that nonfiction storytelling is told and understood. The group focussed on a topic that sparks questions amongst their audience and they tested the new age of digital media to use the skill of collaboration in producing their piece. Through doing this the key ideas of collaboration and research and digital journalism were funnelled from the course synopsis into their project. As such, these skills can be something that is developed further in future projects and adopted by members of other studios. It is also helpful to witness how they have taken to the key ideas in their project and how that has formed it to be an effective tool for the story to be told and understood.

The studio that I choose to focus on was “Room with a View”. This studio was something that I wouldn’t usually be interested in as I am much more visual based and this is an audio-based studio as they utilise broadcast radio as a collaboration tool. I looked into the media work of “The talking stage” where the group delved into the sphere of radio broadcasting, looking into the ways that the world of changing technologies is creating an epidemic of affecting academic studies with university students, inviting guests to share their insights on the manner. The ways that they used the ideas of the course were very dissimilar to how we did as they had a much larger focus on audio in comparison to discovering ways media formats can be mixed. It was interesting to witness how they have created such a unique idea within their broadcast as they aim to navigate through issues that are prevalent in an ever-changing society. With radio becoming somewhat less popular due to the uprise of Bluetooth, apple car play, etc it was reviving to see how the audio median of broadcasting is such a great tool in communicating narratives and sharing stories.

The other studio group I looked at was “Frogspotting in Melbourne”. This group covers a plethora of topics that were niche to the state of Melbourne and encouraged the idea of contributing to community radio. This media creation was unique within itself as it utilised the media format of broadcasting to effectively relish in the key ideas of navigating different identities and exploring the adult life that Melbourne has to offer. The use of the skill of mixing audios benefitted fully invite their listeners into the narrative and enticing them into all aspects of the story, rather than just following with the presenter’s voices. They also conducted thorough research inviting qualified guests to be involved in their project which validity and made the media work something that could be further developed upon. Overall by investigating the media studio of “Room with a View” I was able to discover the different ways of utilising mix-media formats and the ways that the studio’s core concepts align.
