Embodiment and isolation: differences, connection, and simulacra

“If the body we have is the one known by pathologists after our death, while the body we are is the one we know ourselves by being self-aware, then what about the body we do?” (Mol & Law 2004: 45)

Embodiment and isolation: differences, connection, and simulacra from Media Factory on Vimeo.

Our studio explores the ways in which the self engages with the rest of the world, explores the ways in which various forms of media come together in different ways, tries to think about “embody the world” in new ways, and begins to discover and create patterns in the media that relate to the world. The body is the object with which we perceive the world, where we have the world’s experience, for the world is full of imagination. We argue for the value of the kinds of embodied knowledge that come from enacting our bodies in various situations and activities, in relationship with the world. These works mix different forms of media (digital and other media), may subvert our existing perceptions and disrupt every aspect of ourselves and the world, but they are sure to bring us a novel experience.“We all have and are a body… “(Mol & Law 2004: 45)

The works in this online exhibition explore different embodied experiences of comfort and everyday routine; of creating empathy in isolation; of cross-time-zone experiences; and of the tension between experiences of the digital and natural worlds.

We invite you to step into the embodiment of the world and play with and contribute to these works as they unfold.

See the works.
